Why I take pictures,,,

"Any given moment will never occur again...there may be moments with similarities but that particular moment in time is gone.  Pressing the shutter preserves that moment forever"  - Jerry East

I have been making photographs seriously for about 3 years however have been around photography all of my life.  My father and grandfather owned and operated a fantastic photography supply store on Main Street in Hutchinson for nearly 30 years.  I still remember the smell of the darkroom, my dad creating wonderful prints out of a tiny piece of film, my grandfather and dad talking endlessly about the craft of photography, and walking around the store in wonderment and curiosity at all the photography equipment....oh and camera bags...I inherited my dads endless, and almost obsessive, search for the "perfect camera bag". Unfortunately this store is no longer around as it did not survive the big box store movement of the late 80's that sucked the life force out of many small towns (that's another post all together).  While I was too young to understand most of it at the time I know that this is what imprinted me with the unyielding passion I have found behind the lens.  The sheer amount of joy and  freedom that I feel with a camera in my hands is beyond measure and through photography I have found a sense of peace and connection to "my world" that, until photography, I could not find any other way.
